Your First Presentation on Immigration/Emigration

Your topic is Immigration to and Emigration from your country. Please explain the reasons why people either leave your country or come to your country. Here are some questions to consider:

Do people leave for economic reasons? For educational reasons? For other reasons? Do they usually return home? Do people come to your country to work or to study? If so, who are these people? Do any of these people become citizens? How long do they stay in your country? What are some of the benefits of having immigrants in a country? What are some of the disadvantages?

Go to the following link to see the grading rubric for your upcoming presentation. You will see that there are basically 4 components to the presentation:

1. Content (30%)
2. Structure and organization (30%)
3. Delivery (30%)
4. Powerpoint (10%)

I will go over this rubric with you in class to make everything clear.

To satisfy the feedback requirement, you must meet with at least 2 of your classmates BEFORE you give your presentation in front of the class. It is the job of your listeners to fill out the feedback forms and give you tips to improve your presentation. They should check for spelling or grammar mistakes in your powerpoint.

It is also their job to inform you if you satisfy the time requirement. If your presentation is too long, you need to condense it; if your presentation is too short, you need to develop it more. You will turn in 2 feedback forms to me before you give your presentation.

The presentation should be 5-7 minutes.

We will have 11 presentations next Monday and the rest next Wednesday.

*On page 217 in your listening book you will see a presentation outline and on 218 you will see a presentation checklist. These will help you as you prepare.
